February Update

Good evening, all.  I think it’s safe to say that Winter is back upon us again and hopefully doesn’t leave soon, either.

As you most likely know already, February is the month where all the really fun stuff happens on the trails in Mitchell County.  From fun runs to club rides, to other events happening in the area, this is the month.  So, what do we have in store?  Check it out:

First on the list is the second annual WinterFest (Fun Run/Meat Raffle/Memorial Lighted Ride) on Saturday, February 21st.  The fun run will be snow pending, as will the lighted ride.  There will also be burgers served from 4-6 PM at the Legion in St. Ansgar.  Following the burgers at the Legion will be the lighted ride from the Legion to Interstate Park in Mitchell.  At 8:00 PM that night will be the meat raffle back at the Legion.  Go to www.mcezriders.com/WinterFest2015 for more information.  Also, you may drive the fun run if we do not have snow at that time.

Next off is the ISSA ride in memory of Dave Carmichael on February 26th through the 28th, with a stop in Osage on the 27th. These riders will be staying at the AmericInn in Osage that night.  Our club will be hosting a meal of hamburgers and cheesy potatoes at the shop of J&K Construction at around 5:00-5:30 PM.  We are asking for a free will offering to eat, and we will need volunteers to help us serve.  Feel free to stop on out and enjoy a meal and beverages, as well as meet fellow snowmobilers from the state of Iowa.

Finally, there is a club ride planned to Wabasha, Minnesota starting on Saturday February 28, staying up there that night, and heading back on the next day (March 1).  We will be leaving at 9:00 AM sharp on Saturday morning, and there are currently 16 rooms booked for members of the club.  Get ahold of your nearest club officer or head to the meeting for more information.

Last but not least – Don’t forget to head on out to the next club meeting.  There’s still quite a bit of planning to go, and we would love everyone’s input on these events.  The meeting is on Tuesday, February 10th at the Legion in St. Ansgar.  We hope to see you there.

Ride safe and be smart, but most importantly, have fun!

Groomer is Out, Last Ride of the Season?

Hello, all. The past couple weeks have been quite difficult for us, so we haven’t posted a whole lot on the website… Anyway, I’ll bring you up to speed on the trails as of today (3-7-14). Since last weekend, the groomer has gotten some surgery to the track system, and will be out running full force today and tomorrow for some (hopefully) good riding. We apologize for the inconvenience and rough trails, but we had to do this to prevent any further damage.

We hope you all enjoy the trails this weekend. Stay safe, use the buddy system, and use hand signals if you can. The forecast is calling for mid 40’s on Sunday, so get out and ride while you still have a chance!

WinterFest is Coming!

Howdy, everyone! We have some information to post about WinterFest! The date will be on Saturday, February 22, 2014 with a fun ride starting in the morning and ending in the afternoon. After the fun ride during the day, we will be having a “Group Torch Ride” with glow sticks riding around the river. After the torch ride, there will be a meat raffle. All of these events starts and stops at the American Legion in St. Ansgar. We will post more information when it becomes available!

Groomer School TONIGHT!

This is a reminder to all who are a groomer operator in the North Iowa area, or would like to become one.  There is a groomer operating certification class in Rudd, IA at the community center tonight, December 18, 2013.  For individuals who would like to become certified, the New Operator Certification class will start at 6:00, and Re-Certification for currently certified operators will start at 6:30.

All groomer operators in the state of Iowa are mandated to be re-certified in groomer operating by June 2014.  This is due to new regulations put in by the state and DNR to make sure that everyone who is operating a groomer is trained.

Also, for current operators, DNR officers WILL be stopping the groomer on a regular basis to check up on how grooming is going, and also to check for illegal activities. Remember, alcohol and tobacco products are strictly prohibited in the groomer, and the club may lose the groomer if any illegal activities are happening while grooming trails.  Remember, it only takes one incident to ruin the sport for everyone in the county, so be responsible!

Once again, the groomer school starts at 6:00 tonight in Rudd for new operators, and at 6:30 for re-certification.  Happy Holidays and pray for snow!
